Symbol Linking

Symbol Linking allows you to update the driving symbol in multiple quote-based windows with a singular symbol change.

You can create up to six sets of linked tools, and the linking works within a single workspace as well as across multiple workspaces. There is no limit to the amount of windows you can link, but the minimum amount of windows that must be linked is two.

To begin symbol linking, open the desired tool windows in a workspace, then click on the link icon next to the symbol entry box. The first time you do this, you will see a single available link displayed in the menu, marked as 1. After you have selected this in your first window, proceed to all remaining windows you wish to have linked, and use the same link button to select the link marked as 1.

Upon having a linked set of tools, you will also be able to use the Send Symbol To feature, which allows you to send a symbol to a linked set of tools. You will see Send Symbol To listed in the right click menu and the left click Quick Action menu from the menus in Positions, Watch List, and Market View.

Options and Futures Letter Codes

Trading months can be notated with single letters, which can be seen in various parts of the platform such as option codes as well as futures contract quotes. You will see following trading month letter codes, which are standardized throughout the industry, used throughout E*TRADE platforms:

Quarterly expiration series months are the following:  March (H), June (M), September (U), December (Z).

Serial expiration series months are the following: January (F), February (G), April (J), May (K), July (N), August (Q), October (V), November (X).

Exchange Codes

In the table below, you'll find a list of codes representing exchanges. These codes can be found on various E*TRADE panels, including Watch List, Positions, Time and Sales, and Market Depth.

Note: To view exchange codes on Watch List or Positions panels, you'll need to create or edit a view to show an exchange-related data column (for instance, Ask Exchange or Bid Exchange).
