General

When was the merger between E*TRADE and Morgan Stanley completed?

E*TRADE and Morgan Stanley officially joined forces on October 2, 2020. Since that time, we’ve been working closely to begin offering you access to an expanded array of financial products and resources representing the best of both of our firms—with much more to come. Our aim is to help you pursue your financial goals on your terms with a comprehensive suite of advantages that the combined E*TRADE and Morgan Stanley can provide.

Has my E*TRADE account been moved to Morgan Stanley?

All E*TRADE brokerage, stock plan, and managed accounts are still held at E*TRADE, now known as E*TRADE from Morgan Stanley. All E*TRADE Bank accounts, including Checking, Max-Rate Checking, and Premium Savings Accounts, are now held at Morgan Stanley Private Bank. You should continue using the same log-on information to access your accounts on etrade.com, the E*TRADE mobile app, and the Power E*TRADE platform and app.

Will anything about my account change (e.g., account number, account statements, tax forms, log-on credentials, website and mobile access, etc.)?

No. Your existing account information remains the same, including instructions for direct and recurring deposits, ATM access, online bill payment, check writing, wires, and ACH transfers. Your existing account preferences and subscriptions, such as market data, options trading levels, margin status, beneficiaries, powers of attorney, and the like also remain the same. All administrative and tax documentation will continue to be sent or posted by E*TRADE.

Will my stock plan participant experience change in any way?

There are currently no changes to the E*TRADE stock plan dashboard or your stock plan participant experience. E*TRADE and Morgan Stanley are partnering closely to enhance the stock plan participant experience with the best of both firms’ offerings, including access to wealth management and financial wellness solutions offered through Morgan Stanley Wealth Management and Morgan Stanley at Work.

I have an account at Morgan Stanley. Can I open an E*TRADE account?

Yes. You can open an E*TRADE account as qualified and view our account offerings at any time. Note that for your convenience, Automated Customer Account Transfer (ACAT) fees will be waived for transfers between E*TRADE and Morgan Stanley accounts.

I have accounts at both E*TRADE and Morgan Stanley. Will I see all my accounts in one place?

At this time, our platforms are separate. You should continue to access your E*TRADE account(s) through etrade.com, the Power E*TRADE platform, or an E*TRADE app. You may, however, set up a consolidated view of your E*TRADE and Morgan Stanley accounts, including current balances, through etrade.com, the E*TRADE Mobile app, or Morgan Stanley Online. Restrictions or qualifiers may apply.

Product and Pricing

Will E*TRADE product pricing and promotional offers be changing?

Our pricing remains the same. E*TRADE will continue to offer $0 commissions on online US stock, ETF, and options trades. Other trade-related pricing also remains the same. Visit Pricing and Rates for more information.

If you are currently participating in an active promotional offer at E*TRADE, you will continue to be a part of that offer with no change to the offer requirements or details through the promotional expiration date.

I have an existing product at E*TRADE or Morgan Stanley, but I want to switch to the other firm's version of the product. Can I do this?

E*TRADE products are only available via an E*TRADE account and Morgan Stanley products are only available via a Morgan Stanley account, so you may need to open a new account. We are continuing to work closely to enhance your experience with fully integrated access to the best of both of our offerings. Eventually, we hope to offer a comprehensive array of E*TRADE and Morgan Stanley products and services all under one roof, though some products may be restricted to certain account types. We'll keep you updated as more information becomes available.

Will I now have access to Morgan Stanley's wealth management tools and platform?

For now, only Morgan Stanley Wealth Management customers will have access to its wealth management tools and platform. We have begun to offer certain Morgan Stanley resources to E*TRADE customers on common platforms and are continuing to work closely to bring you integrated access to even more. In time, we hope to offer a comprehensive array of E*TRADE and Morgan Stanley products and services all under one roof. We’ll keep you updated as more information becomes available.

Insurance and Protection

Will the E*TRADE Securities LLC excess of SIPC insurance policy remain the same?

E*TRADE Securities LLC clients will be covered under the Morgan Stanley excess of SIPC supplemental insurance policy. Under SIPC, securities in your securities brokerage account(s) are protected up to $500,000 ($250,000 for cash claims). Morgan Stanley also maintains additional insurance with an aggregate limit of $1 billion. Will my FDIC coverage remain the same?

Deposits that you hold at any of the three banks involved in the merger will receive FDIC insurance coverage up to the standard maximum deposit insurance amounts for an FDIC-recognized category of account ownership (currently, $250,000 for single accounts) per bank as follows: 

Deposits maintained at Morgan Stanley Private Bank prior to and after the merger (other than those assumed from E*TRADE Bank or E*TRADE Savings Bank on the merger date) will remain insured by the FDIC up to the standard maximum deposit insurance amount; 

Deposits maintained at E*TRADE Bank prior to the merger will be assumed by Morgan Stanley Private Bank on the merger date, and will remain separately insured (as if the merger had not occurred) for a period of six months from the merger date;

Deposits maintained at E*TRADE Savings Bank prior to the merger will be assumed by Morgan Stanley Private Bank on the merger date, and will remain separately insured (as if the merger had not occurred) for a period of six months from the merger date.

Cash Management

I have accounts at both E*TRADE and Morgan Stanley. Can I transfer money between my E*TRADE and Morgan Stanley accounts?

Yes. You can transfer cash between your E*TRADE and Morgan Stanley accounts via an ACH (Automated Clearing House) transfer or a wire request. Over time, you will also be able to initiate internal transfers between your E*TRADE and Morgan Stanley accounts. To add money to your E*TRADE account, log on to etrade.com and click Transfers on the navigation bar.

You should continue to use the same routing numbers for E*TRADE (shown below) for things like direct deposits and incoming wires.

Can Morgan Stanley and E*TRADE accept checks on behalf of one another?

No. Morgan Stanley and E*TRADE cannot accept checks on each other’s behalf at this time. Check deposits into an E*TRADE account can be done by mobile deposit via the E*TRADE Mobile app or by mail. Checks can be deposited into a Morgan Stanley account by Morgan Stanley mobile deposit, branch deposit, or by mail.

Customer Service

Do I continue to call the same phone number for questions and support? If I have a Financial Consultant or Relationship Manager at E*TRADE, do I continue to work with that person?

At this time, your service experience remains the same. For matters pertaining to your E*TRADE account(s), you can continue to contact E*TRADE Customer Service at 800-387-2331 anytime, seven days a week.

If you work with a dedicated E*TRADE Relationship Manager, Financial Advisor, or Financial Consultant, you may continue to do so. In addition, Executive Services participants can continue to get support via email at executiveservice@etrade.com.

Can I get a Morgan Stanley Financial Advisor?

We are continuing to work closely to enhance your experience with the best of both of our offerings. While we have taken a number of exciting first steps, eventually we hope to provide you with integrated access to a comprehensive array of E*TRADE and Morgan Stanley products and services all under one roof.
