Safeguarding your assets and personal information is among our highest priorities. We have a comprehensive, proactive cybersecurity and fraud prevention program designed to help protect your assets and information.
Cybersecurity: Our dedicated global workforce tracks the cyber threat landscape around the clock, performs routing testing of our systems to help identify potential vulnerabilities and institutes advanced analytics to help detect anomalous activity in your accounts.
Perimeter Defense: E*TRADE is protected by firewalls and other intrusion detection mechanisms. We continually monitor our perimeter to help identify and reject attempted intrusions or unauthorized connections.
End-to-End Encryption: E*TRADE platforms utilize strong encryption protocols to ensure your data isn’t intercepted or read in transit.
Automatic Session Timeout: After a period of inactivity, we will automatically log you off to help reduce the possibility of unauthorized access to your account. You can manage your timeout preferences by logging on to etrade.com, selecting Profile > Security Settings > Manage timeout preferences. From the E*TRADE Mobile App, select Menu > Settings > Session Timeout.
MAINTAIN GOOD CYBERSECURITY HABITS
While E*TRADE is committed to your account security, you also have an important role to play. Fraudsters are constantly inventing new ways to trick people into disclosing personal information or granting access to their accounts.
If you suspect you may be the victim of fraud or identify theft, or if you notice suspicious account activity or receive a questionable email or text that appears to be from E*TRADE, call us anytime at 800-387-2331.
You can also help protect yourself by taking the following steps.
Enable Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), which requires another factor in addition to your username and password to confirm your identity and protect access to your accounts. At E*TRADE, we offer several MFA options, including one-time verification codes sent to your mobile number or use of an authenticator app. Learn more.
Keep your software, operating system and browsers up to date. Enable automatic software updates on your devices, if possible.
Never share your password with anyone or reuse the same or similar passwords. Consider using a password manager to create and store lengthy, complex and unique passwords for you in an encrypted state. If you believe your E*TRADE account password has been compromised, change it immediately.
Set up account activity alerts so that you are notified about certain transactions or suspicious activity related to your account. Make sure you configure your delivery preferences and keep your contact information up to date. You should also allow mobile push notifications (in your phone settings) to receive prompt account alerts and notifications if we detect a logon attempt from an unrecognized device.
Log off your E*TRADE account after each session and never use a public device to log on to your account.
Periodically review your third-party data sharing settings by logging on to etrade.com, selecting Profile > Security Settings > Manage third-party data sharing. This allows you to control data sharing with third-party financial data aggregation services.
FRAUD PREVENTION BEST PRACTICES
Beware of E*TRADE impersonators. While we may contact you about your account, we will never ask for your password. Protect yourself even further by bookmarking etrade.com and using that trusted website to log on to your account. Avoid using links in emails, text messages or search results as these may take you to fraudulent lookalike sites.
