  What is...?
Margin Balance
Margin Balance is the net open balance in your margin account. If negative, you owe E*TRADE Securities this amount. If positive, the balance may be available to earn interest. You may earn interest on margin balances which exceed the margin requirements in your account. You are not eligible for credit interest if your margin balance is less than your Market Value of Stocks, and Options (short).
